2009 Vespa GTV 250 Scooter

The GTV models celebrate 60 years of the most legendary two-wheeler of all time by re-introducing the trademark Vespa styling and features from the 50s and 60s models.
A few years after it was originally launched, Vespa would come to symbolize Europe's post-war reconstruction. Over the decades, it would become an icon of youth culture and an emblem of Italian style and design worldwide. Now, 60 years on, the Vespa continues to be an innovative product and an example of industrial design par excellence in terms of styling and production technology.
Cleverly re-interpreting some of the traditional design and technical elements of vintage Vespas, particularly 1950s and 1960s models, the Vespa GTV pay homage to this iconic product, the result of pure Italian creativity and industrial culture.
Developed on the base of, respectively, the Vespa GTS and LX, the Vespa GTV and LXV have a distinct vintage look, but include automatic transmissions and eco-friendly, modern engines. The GTV utilizes a powerful 250cc four-valve, liquid-cooled engine with electronic injection, a double rear shock absorber and 12" wheels stopped by two disk brakes. The LXV is built around the LX engine, a 150cc four-stroke engine. Both models feature a single steel chassis, as all Vespas have since their inception.
Developed on the base of the GTS, the GTV features several distinctive stylistic details, namely the headlamp which has been positioned on the front mudguard, as it was on the very first Vespa prototype. The headlamp moved up by the handlebars on mid 50s models, and is back on the mudguard for this special vintage model. Additional features evoke the original Vespa as well, such as the 'naked' handlebar (the prototype had a simple, metal tube) and the dual-seat saddle which is made of genuine leather and houses storage space suitable for your helmet. The round analog speedometer has relatively retro graphics, plus a digital ride information display, further emphasizing the combination of historical elements and modern technology on this unique vehicle.

Specifications: 2009 Vespa LXV 150 Scooter

2009 Vespa LXV 150 Scooter

The Vespa LXV models celebrate 60 years of the most legendary two-wheeler of all time by re-introducing the trademark Vespa styling and features from the 50s and 60s models.
Cleverly re-interpreting some of the traditional design and technical elements of vintage Vespas, particularly 1950s and 1960s models, the Vespa LXV pay homage to this iconic product, the result of pure Italian creativity and industrial culture.
Developed on the base of the 2005 Vespa LX, the LXV was designed as a tribute to the 1960s Vespas. The updates to the LXV are on the accessory parts to the metal body, such as the headlamp and handlebars. The headlamp remains in its original position on the handlebar, like the 1960s scooters from which the Vespa LXV is derived, but in a slimmer, more minimalist version to emphasise the 'naked' handlebar and to give the front of the vehicle a more lightweight look. The analog instrumentation is placed in a chrome-plated frame while the unique graphics resemble those in vogue in the 1960s. Real leather is used on the saddle, which is designed with a separate passenger seat just as on the early Vespa models, underneath which is a storage compartment.

Specifications: 2009 Piaggio MP3 250 Scooter

2009 Piaggio MP3 250 Scooter

Piaggio, the company that revolutionized personal transport with the launch of the first Vespa model in 1946, continues its streak of innovation with the introduction of the three-wheel scooter, the PIAGGIO MP3. The PIAGGIO MP3 provides safety, road grip and stability levels that no two-wheeler can match. Its power, performance and ease of use make for a very entertaining ride.
The two independent, tilting front wheels of the PIAGGIO MP3 re-define the very concept of ride stability to provide an unprecedented riding experience. Take on wet or patchy asphalt, cobblestone streets, train tracks and other tough riding conditions with more confidence and ease than a traditional two-wheeler.
With its compact super-scooter size and exceptional manoeuvrability, the PIAGGIO MP3 is at home in town traffic. It’s a cinch to park: an electro-hydraulic suspension locking system means there is no need to put the vehicle on its stand. The PIAGGIO MP3 is equally comfortable when heading out of town. Its road grip, cornering safety and tilt angle are unprecedented for a scooter, adding to the pleasure of riding different road surfaces at high speed.
The PIAGGIO MP3 frame in high-tensile steel tubes is the result of the best CAD (Computer Aided Design) technology and computerized FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis. Elements such as frame strength and weight were precisely defined and tested from the initial phases of the project, with the suitability of each solution checked at every stage.
The innovative parallelogram suspension, an original Piaggio design, is anchored to the frame. The tilt mechanism is composed of four cast-aluminium control arms with four hinges fixed to the central tube and two guide tubes on either side of the parallelogram and is connected to the arms via suspension pins and ball bearings. The tubes on the right and left enclose the steering tube in a classic single arm setup.
The rear of the MP3 features a singlearm suspension with two dual effect hydraulic shock absorbers, a helicoidal spring and four-position preload.
Besides its exceptional stability, the PIAGGIO MP3 also provides brilliant braking thanks to three powerful linked brakes, 240 mm in diameter, and the parallelogram suspension. The result is record deceleration (about 8 m per second) with braking space reduced by over 20 per cent on normal road surfaces and as much as 24 per cent on slippery roads compared to a traditional two-wheel scooter.
The PIAGGIO MP3 comes equipped with the Piaggio Quasar 250 i.e. engine. The Quasar 250 i.e. is the all-new Piaggio four-stroke, four-valve, liquid-cooled engine that meets Euro 3 standards, exceeding even the U.S. EPA and CARB standards. The new Quasar electronic injection series is the result of the Piaggio engine division’s commitment to creating a truly top quality, environment-friendly engine. The advanced closed loop injection with a Lambda sensor, together with a three-way catalytic converter and electronic ignition control system, considerably reduces emissions as well as fuel consumption and provides immediate throttle response. As a result, the PIAGGIO MP3 is fun to ride, quick off the mark in town traffic and comfortable with short motorway trips as well as extended touring.
The MP3 250 redefines the entire concept of ride stability. With three ground
contact points and a shock absorber on each wheel, the MP3 swallows bumps with incredible efficiency.

Specifications: 2009 Piaggio MP3 400 Scooter

2009 Piaggio MP3 400Scooter

The Piaggio MP3, the three-wheel scooter that recently revolutionized personal transport by redefining the entire concept of ride stability, has grown to a 400cc displacement to offer unprecedented performance and safety. Fun, nimble and agile, the Piaggio MP3 400 i.e. handles curves with extraordinary safety and road holding that only the MP3 can manage, while providing all the power and distance range of a real touring maxi scooter.

The Piaggio MP3 has upped its engine capacity to offer increased performance together with a safe, fun ride. The new Master 400 engine—a four-stroke, four-valve unit with liquid cooling and electronic injection, provides a 34 hp power output at 7,500 rpm and torque of 38 Nm at 5,500 rpm. These performance figures translate into smooth, full power output at any engine speed, with response and acceleration at the top of the category. This makes it possible for the Piaggio MP3 400 i.e. to handle all kinds of riding, from town traffic to city bypass roads and tougher out-of-town roads in total comfort and safety even when riding with a passenger and a full load. Extra power and full-bodied torque become available at low engine rpm and are in fact crucial at critical moments like overtaking, when the Master 400 i.e. engine’s acceleration and throttle response together with the exceptional stability of the two-wheel front suspension let the rider pull away fast and safely.

In addition to the many technical advantages of the new Master 400 engine, the rider also enjoys reduced fuel consumption compared to larger capacity scooters, but the same “maxi” performance.

The Piaggio MP3 400 i.e. is truly an all-round scooter. On town rides, the Piaggio MP3 400 i.e. handles cobblestones, train tracks and irregular roads with the greatest of ease and stays stable and safe on wet roads as well. The exceptionally large underseat storage bay (which holds two full-face helmets), the wraparound protection of the wide front shield and the excellent cruising speed make this the ideal vehicle for long-distance as well as tougher rides.

The new 400cc engine also adds substantial advantages as regards the running gear: the use of the new engine and a 14” rear wheel with a 140/70 tire on the Piaggio MP3 400 i.e. has increased the wheelbase by a good 2.5 inches compared to the 250 cc version.

The result is impeccable stability when leaning into fast curves or when braking thanks to the longer rear end, increased rear wheel contact surface and outstanding road grip provided by the innovative parallelogram front suspension built to an original Piaggio design. Its tilt mechanism is composed of four cast aluminum arms, with four hinges fixed to the central tube and two guide tubes on either side of the parallelogram, connected to the arms via suspension pins and ball bearings.

The high strength tubular steel frame of the Piaggio MP3 400 is the result of a design project based on the latest CAD technology and computerized FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis. All aspects of the frame, including its structural strength and weight were defined and thoroughly tested at the very beginning of the project, and the validity of the solutions adopted were verified at every stage of the process.

Comfortable and innovative with exceptional performance, the Piaggio MP3 400 i.e. will appeal to novice riders as well as seasoned motorcyclists, as it combines enjoyment and ease of use with unprecedented safety.

The MP3 250 and MP3 400 redefines the entire concept of ride stability. With three ground contact points and a shock absorber on each wheel, the MP3 swallows bumps with incredible efficiency.

With items like ram air induction, digital ignition, digital fuel injection and sub-throttle valve equipped throttle bodies, this four-cylinder engine’s portfolio reads like a top-end racer. However, this is no high-strung track tool. The Concours 14’s engine delivers strong torque off the line, followed by an impressive mid-range surge that transitions into a top-end rush that any sportbike would be proud to call its own. It achieves this miraculous powerband via variable valve timing (VVT). VVT provides smooth power delivery free of harsh power spikes, by altering the camshaft profile to boost low-end and mid-range torque without sacrificing top-end power.
While the high-tech engine supplies the power, the Concours 14’s aluminum monocoque chassis provides a responsive platform to convert that thrust into comfortable, rapid progress. Combined with a sophisticated inverted fork and smooth, reliable shaft drive system, this agile chassis transfers the potent engine’s torque to the pavement with quiet efficiency. The clean, low maintenance Tetra-Lever shaft drive utilizes a special four-link design to offset the lifting and squatting tendencies of shaft drive when the throttle is opened and closed, in-effect isolating torque from suspension action in a manner that’s remarkably-similar to chain drive. The overall design of the Concours 14’s powertrain has earned critical acclaim for its ability to reliably deliver silky, lash-free thrust.
Massive acceleration capability demands maximum stopping power and the brakes on the Concours 14 are more than up to the task. With radial-mount front calipers operated by a radial-pump master cylinder and petal-type discs on both ends, the brake system gives riders the powerful, reliable braking performance and confidence inspiring control they want. The Concours 14 ABS raises that stopping control level another notch with the reassuring control of an advanced anti-lock brake system (ABS).
The refined chassis, confident brakes and all-conquering power blend together and render the competition as an ever-shrinking dot in the rear view mirrors. An integrated high-speed touring machine with an unquestionable supersport core, the Concours 14 has all the features required for a safe and exciting long-distance ride. Functional touches like Kawasaki’s Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System (KI-PASS), an electrically adjustable windscreen, locking and detachable side cases and an accessory power outlet make this a grand touring machine line no other.
The electrically adjustable windscreen reflects the Concours 14’s genetic roots. It utilizes a supersport-style design philosophy of aerodynamically curving the wind around the rider - and passenger - to help avoid the buffeting that comes from wind curling around less-advanced windscreens. These genes show again in the slim, integrated design of its hard luggage, which are mounted closer to the machine’s centerline for excellent mass centralization.
The Concours 14’s touring prowess doesn’t stop with its impressive physique. It’s loaded with the high-tech electronic wizardry expected of a modern long-distance machine such as a Controller Area Network (CAN) interface between the gauges. The CAN uses fewer wires than a traditional wiring harness, so a greater volume of information can be exchanged and then displayed on the multi-function LCD digital dash. Included in the easy-to-read instrumentation are a speedometer, tachometer and odometer, two trip meters, fuel gauge, estimated fuel mileage, gear position indicator and a clock. Also available to the rider is information from sensors monitoring tire pressure in the front and rear wheels - more peace of mind so the rider can focus on the road.

2009 KIA Cerato Forte All New

2009 KIA Cerato Forte All New

The Cerato broke cover this week, replacing a previous model that has dated significantly in five years on sale in Australia.
With the launch of the all-new Cerato Forte, Kia is taking its biggest leap forward yet in terms of style, innovation, and value. The Cerato Forte represents the new standard in its segment, raising the benchmark for how a mid-sized sedan should look and perform.
Modern and dynamic styling under the guidance of world-renowned Kia global design chief Peter Schreyer, class-leading power, class-leading 4.5 stars Green Vehicle rating, six airbags standard in every model, iPod® compatible audio system, European-standard ride and handling, 5-year/unlimited kilometre warranty for private buyers, great value and a low entry price - the all-new Kia Cerato has it all.
Many commentators believe that, more than ever, new car buyers want vehicles that reflect positively on them as owners and fulfill wide-ranging applications. Cars need to perform, only lightly touch the environment, look good, deliver on safety, be reliable and be well-appointed. overhang imparts a bold, sporty image, with understated sculpting along the side creating a dynamic profile. The long 2,650mm wheelbase not only gives a balanced stance, it also improves ride comfort and maximises cabin space.
The Cerato Forte's interior further underlines Kia's commitment to premium design and quality. The cabin is harmoniously designed throughout, creating a sense of comfort and high value everyone can enjoy. The ergonomics reflect this as well, with all controls placed within reach for easy operation.
Kia has equipped the Cerato Forte with the latest-generation features to meet the demands of discerning drivers. All versions come with twin airbags, anti-lock brakes, automatic headlamps and a fully integrated audio system with iPod connectivity and steering wheel remote controls as standard.
The SX models are the first in this segment to have factory-fitted 17-inch alloy wheels and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) as standard items. Other unique features for this class of car include side and curtain airbags (on the 2.0 SX), and a Supervision instrument cluster with an integrated trip computer and rear parking assist display.
Comprehensive attention to detail makes the Cerato Forte a class-leader in cabin quietness. Underbody engine covers and wheel deflectors improve aerodynamic performance, while reinforced subframes and improved door seals dramatically cut vibration and wind noise.
Two outstandingly efficient DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engines are available - the 124ps 1.6-litre and 156ps 2.0-litre, both of lightweight all-aluminium construction. Kia's CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) system gives maximum power while reducing fuel usage and emissions at the same time. With an official consumption figure of 6.6L/100km (15.2km/L) in the combined driving cycle (1.6-litre manual), the Cerato Forte is one of the most economical cars in its class. An automatic gearbox with sports mode sequential manual shifting is optional on both the 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre models.

2009 KIA Cerato Forte All New

The new twin-cam, four-cylinder 2.0-litre Theta II petrol engine, with Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT), revs smoothly to produce 115 kW of power @ 6,200 rpm and 194 Nm of torque @ 4,300 rpm to take the mantle of class-leader in the power stakes.
The class-leading, Euro IV-compliant Theta II engine is mated to a slick-shifting, short-throw five-speed manual for optimum driver control as standard, or can be optioned with Kia's gated, four-speed automatic gearbox for a smooth and relaxed drive with the choice of Sportsmatic manual-shift capability.
New Cerato's 2.0-litre engine is a state-of-the-art, lightweight four-cylinder 16-valve unit that is powerful, quiet and economical. Weight-saving measures include an aluminium cylinder block and head with a ladder frame.
Continuously Variable Valve Timing optimises low and medium-speed torque as well as aiding high-speed performance and economy.
The valve gear is chain-driven to minimise maintenance requirements and cut noise, while auxiliary systems are powered by a single serpentine belt.
Mated to the four-speed automatic gearbox, the new 2.0-litre Theta II engine can power the new Cerato from 0-100 km/h in 10.5 seconds and on to 190 km/h (0-100 km/h in 9.3 seconds and up to 200 km/h top speed with manual gearbox).
Combined fuel consumption for the new Cerato is 7.8 litres/100kms (official ADR81/01 combined cycle) with the manual gearbox and 7.9 litres/100kms for the automatic gearbox.
The four-speed Sportsmatic automatic uses a new lightweight flat-type torque converter that is smaller than a conventional unit, with less friction and therefore better fuel efficiency. The gear train has also been designed to be quieter.
The gearbox features electronic controls that monitor a variety of parameters to guarantee smooth shifts adapted to individual driving styles. A high top gear ratio ensures reduced fuel consumption and quieter cruising at high speeds.

2009 KIA Cee'd with Intelligent Stop & Go Technology

2009 KIA Cee'd

Stop/start technology is like a trial membership for hybrids: it lets drivers in on the fuel savings and lower carbon emissions without forcing them to become a card-carrying member of the hybrid brigade. Kia is will be offering buyers just such an opportunity by introducing ISG, or Idle, Stop, and Go (also called Intelligent Stop & Go) on the new cee'd.
The ISG will be available on the 1.4- and 1.6-liter gasoline-engined c'eeds, and unlike other stop/start technology, this ISG shuts the engine down not only when the car is stopped, but when it's moving less than four mph. To engage the ISG while the car is moving, the driver puts the car in neutral and depresses the clutch, the engine is shut down, and he or she will be rewarded with 15% better fuel economy in the urban cycle.
The frugal-ized cee'd also benefits from a lighter five-speed gearbox and low-rolling-resistance tires as standard fitment. Later in 2009, the 1.6-liter diesel c'eed will be offered with ISG technology.
And here are the press release from Kia Motor:
Kia Motors Corporation announced today that full scale production of the six new Kia cee'd ISG (Idle Stop & Go) models, which offer up to 15% fuel savings in city driving, is now underway at its facility in Zilina (Slovakia), with deliveries to customers across Europe scheduled to begin during the next two months.
Made in Europe, the C-segment cee'd ISG cars are the first Kia production models to benefit from the Korean Corporation's continuing and massive investment in eco-friendly technologies for the future. Intensive R&D programs are developing hybrid, fuel cell and electric vehicles for volume production in the next decade.
Hyoung-Keun Lee, Senior Executive Vice President and COO of the International Business Division, said, "The new Kia cee'd ISG models confirm Kia's commitment to creating more environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient production models - without losing sight of customer expectations for Kia cars to feature a sporty design, fun-to-drive performance and a strong appeal to the young-at-heart."

2009 KIA Cee'd Diesel

Kia's innovative ISG system automatically switches the engine off when the car is stopped in traffic and restarts the engine instantly when the driver wishes to move again. In typical city driving conditions, with heavy traffic and constant stop-start motoring, the ISG system dramatically cuts fuel consumption and emissions - by up to 15%. In everyday mixed driving over town, country and motorway routes, the officially measured fuel saving is 6% on the combined cycle.
As part of the ISG system for cee'd, a new 'smart' starter motor is linked to an upgraded ECU, which monitors the car's status at all times. When the car comes to a stop, such as at traffic lights, the ECU uses information from various other control systems around the vehicle to decide if switching the engine off is appropriate.
A new 'smart' high-efficiency alternator suppresses electric power demand during acceleration and recharges the car's battery during deceleration. As a 'fail-safe' if the car's battery power drops below 75% of maximum for any reason, or there is insufficient energy available for the next start-up, the system will abort its 'Idle Stop & Go' program.
While the car is stationary, if the clutch pedal is depressed, the engine is instantly re-started - automatically - so there is no delay in setting off as the engine re-starting process is accomplished in the time it takes the driver to select first gear.

2009 KIA Pro Cee'd

"In Europe, the Kia cee'd has rapidly established itself as a genuine rival to class-leading vehicles in the C-segment," enthuses Mr Panu Vainamo, General Manager Marketing, Kia Motors Europe. "Now, we are proud to transfer some of the 'green-performance' features shown on earlier Kia concept cars into our 2009 production models. The ISG innovation will maintain the cee'd as a highly competitive challenger in its class, with a CO2 rating from just 137 g/km."
The new ISG-equipped Kia cee'd cars will also benefit from a new-generation, lighter weight manual gearbox which more than offsets the small extra weight of the ISG system components. Made in Europe, this new five-speed transmission weighs 5 kilos less than the previous unit and features a new selector mechanism. Gear-changing forces are reduced, reverse is synchronized with fifth gear for easier selection and the overall 'feel' of the transmission is significantly improved.
In Europe, Kia cee'd ISG cars will be available with a choice of 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre gasoline engines and the three cee'd family bodystyles - five-door hatchback, five-door sporty wagon and three-door pro_cee'd.

2009 KIA Cee'd Interior

Later during 2009, similar ISG technology will also be made available for the 1.6-litre diesel Kia cee'd and ISG technology appear on other Kia models in 2010 and beyond in numerous markets outside of Europe as well.
