Looks a lot bigger than it actually is - Hyundai iX-Onic Concept Car

Hyundai iX-Onic Concept Car

Hyundai ix-onic concept is a preview for the next generation Tucson crossover that will debut end of the year. Currently we don’t know how many styling cues will be taken from the concept to the production model, but we hope a lot. Questionable marketing decisions aside, the ix-onic, which previews the next Tucson crossover, is a winner. Aesthetically, it has some mildly derivative elements (the face has a certain Mazda quality about it), but it's a good-looking vehicle that comes off bigger and more muscular than its 173-inch length suggests. In other words, it's got presence.
The exterior also has some innovative touches, including headlamps with cool – if slightly contrived – moving internal elements (check out the video after the jump), and as well a coral-like asymmetrical grille mesh and very strong upswept greenhouse that shows off a clean, less hard-edged interior. That said, we could do without the heavy-handed chrome wheels that look like they were cribbed from the guys over at West Coast Customs.
Hyundai’s European designers have done a great job. ix-onic concept looks a lot bigger than it actually is. In fact it is only 4,400 mm long and 1,850 mm wide.
Interestingly, with the ix-onic, Hyundai designers are now going on record saying they are working toward defining a "hexagonal" front graphic as the company's new universal corporate face.
How the latter proclamation fits in with new offerings like the Genesis Sedan and Coupe or the Equus is something of an open question (perhaps this is just on designs for the European market), but as aesthetic signatures go, we can see this idea working to Hyundai's advantage, as the company's offerings currently don't really have a familial design element to tie them together.
The ix-onic – pronounced "ik-sonnik" – makes use of Hyundai's brand-new 1.6-liter GDi turbo four-cylinder, which routes its 168 horsepower through a six-speed double-clutch transmission (a bit of tech we don't recall seeing from Hyundai before), and the drivetrain has stop-start tech to help it yield a commendably low 149 grams-per-kilometer of C02. With Hyundai's previous admission that the company will move toward all direct-injection engines, we can expect to see this powerplant coming to America in the next Tucson, although perhaps not immediately.

2010 Honda Accord Crosstour

Honda has now officially confirmed production of the Accord Crosstour, which is the Crossover variant of the widely famous Accord sedan. The car will go on sale in America as soon as Fall 2009.
This new addition to the Honda lineup will be sold as a 2010 model. Additional information will be announced later in the year.
However, Honda may having given us a glimpse at this genre-bending car type with the Acura ZDX concept shown at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. Recent spy photos posted at AutoBlog and elsewhere reveal a similar coupe-profile with Accord bodywork on a Crosstour test mule. These cars have a sloped rear like the Volkswagen Passat CC, though it features hatchback.
The body style seems distinctly European, where automotive versatility is highly prized. However, the Crosstourer will be based on the American-market Accord platform, which is larger than the Euro Accord seen Stateside as the Acura TSX. The Accord Crosstour will be a distinctive vehicle that offers a more sedan-like alternative to the heavy Toyota Venza.
The MDX-based ZDX also goes on sale in the fall.

Honda CR-Z a sporty hybrid will be sold in Japan in February 2010

2010 HONDA CR-Z CONCEPT CAR
Honda announced that the CR-Z (a car that Honda calls “a sporty hybrid model”) will be sold in Japan as early as February 2010. Honda will further enhance its lineup of compact hybrid models, which leverage the unique characteristics of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA), including compact size, lightweight and high efficiency.
In addition, Honda is currently developing a new hybrid system which is intended to be installed on mid- to large-size vehicles. The launch date of the new hybrid coupe on other markets will be announced towards the end of 2009. Though the vehicle will continue to use the same 1.3 L VTEC engine found in Honda's Insight, it will have a more powerful electric motor, giving the car a total of 130 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. The Insight delivers 98 hp. The car should be able to go from 0 to 60 in 9 seconds and get an average fuel economy of 55 MPG.
Ito also confirmed that Honda will be producing a hybrid version of the Fit by the end of 2010. "I think everyone is going to go the way of hybrids," said Ito. "Bringing hybrids quickly to customers will be a major focus of our activities. I want Honda to be a speedy company."
The CR-Z concept vehicle made its world debut at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show in 2007. The CR-Z sporty hybrid will feature advanced technologies that deliver enjoyable driving for all while reducing the vehicle’s environmental footprint.
Furthermore Ito said Honda was also developing a larger hybrid system using 2 electric motors, similar to GMs 2-mode hybrid system. This will be used for larger vehicles, trucks, and SUVs.

Audi A7 five-door Coupe Sportback Concept Car

Audi “appears” to be taking the plunge into the four-door coupe segment? Well, Audi hasn’t officially announced it for production yet so there’s still a chance it’ll remain a concept. More appearance-oriented is that the Sportback didn’t get its name for being a four-door coupe, but rather a five-door coupe. After all, that’s the name it gives its five-door A3.

The design is what you’d expect from Audi, a new interpretation of the now trademark horse-collar grille front and centre, with horizontal strakes instead of vertical, and LED eyebrows framing the top half of each beautifully shaped headlamp cluster, sitting atop deep-set aerodynamically designed air intakes that add to the car’s wide, solid stance.
A few distinctive details include frameless doors that give the car an open coupe-like profile, while the window strip was kept overtly flat in order to visually lengthen the car. Unlike some current Audi designs the Sportback seems purposefully simple, devoid of complex lines and curves so that an uncluttered elegance is all that’s noticeable, a return to the clean, clear and almost minimalist design language that adhered fans to the four-ringed brand for decades, from the second-generation 5000 to the previous generation A6, without losing the boldness that has raised Audi’s profile into the respected upper premium crust since its new grille was introduced.

Details are always important, and to that end Audi’s designers have included some real gems that we can only hope will make it into production. The gorgeous 10-spoke alloy wheels shouldn’t be a problem to replicate in production trim, and their 21-inch diameter isn’t out of the question for road cars anymore, but the “almost fragile looking” side mirrors, as Audi describes them, with their upturned tips that form “winglets” inspired by the wings of modern jet aircraft, might be a little tougher to make functional due to their abbreviated size. And those sharply cut LED taillights mirrored by four rectangular tailpipes set into a fully-functional diffuser, they’re stunning and certainly show that there’s indeed blood between the German brand and its Italian “amore bambino”, Lamborghini.
As for the interior, it is opulence epitomized. Eyes are immediately drawn to a thick strip of matte-finish oak blockboard wood stretching across the dash and into the upper door panels, and then beginning again on the lower edge of each door followed through to the rear compartment, complemented by a seemingly solid tree’s worth of oak blockboard straddling the lower console, a prettier looking wood than its name implies, with a strong grain that runs horizontally to accentuate the car’s width. Quilted, diamond-pattern cream leather seats give a rich look that brightens up the cabin, with matching dashtop, door tops and lower door panels, offset by chocolate brown door inserts, lower dash and lower console sections. Aluminum accents add to the contemporary design, an Audi staple, while just the right amount of visible technology on the centre stack and lower console enhances the advanced capabilities of this car.

Buttons and switches are kept to that ideal balance between stark minimalism and technology overkill thanks to Audi’s latest MMI interface that retracts horizontally into the dash when not in use, while a plentiful supply of beautifully sculpted air vents join a roof almost entirely made of glass to make sure no one ever feels claustrophobic.
On that note its rear quarters have been designed only for two, for a first class ride instead of coach. Audi says “shoulder, head and leg room are reminiscent of a premium-class touring car,” while its trunk is giant-sized at 500 liters (17.66 cubic feet) and as nicely appointed as cargo compartments come.
Electromechanical power steering is light on energy consumption but reportedly weighty enough in feel to give substantive feedback, and when combined with the aforementioned suspension setup should result in superb handling characteristics, important for a relatively lightweight 1,800-kilogram (3,968-lb) sedan with 406 lb-ft of torque diverted to all wheels via an ultra-efficient, performance-oriented seven-speed tiptronic transmission. While horsepower is less impressive at only 225, it hardly matters in straight line performance where the Sportback will sprint to 100 km/h in less than seven seconds before topping out at a rather lofty 245 km/h (152 mph).

“The Audi Sportback concept show car is now rolling up to the starting line with a dual mission: As suggested by the name, it symbolizes the Sportback principle in its purest form in the combination of elegance, sportiness and variability. And the show car also signals the company's determination not to limit Sportback versions to the compact segment. As previously indicated by the Audi A1 Sportback concept – the star of the 2008 Paris Motor Show – the brand with the four rings is going to dramatically expand the number of Sportback models on the market.”

2010 PARAJET FLYING CAR a Personal flying Machine

2010 PARAJET FLYING CAR

Parajet, the same company responsible for that downright unnerving personal flying machine we peeked back in ‘05, has now placed its long-awaited SkyCar up for pre-order. The vehicle is completely street legal and can accelerate to 62mph in just 4.2 seconds, thus making it the world’s first “usable, road-legal flying car.
Cardoso builds the flying machines, called the Parajet, in his barn in Dorset, southwest England.
2010 PARAJET FLYING CAR

The Parajet consists of a large fan, which is strapped on to the "flyer's" back, a bit like a backpack. This, along with a paraglider wing, gets the flyer off the ground.
Cardoso told CNN he had always dreamed of being able to fly and decided to invent something that would enable him to do just that.
"When I was 16, I saw a tiny little photo of a man with a propeller on his back and I thought, I want to build one of those."
He has made several models since then, each one lighter, faster, quieter and more efficient than the previous.
He has turned his dream into a business, and has already sold 120 jets. He will soon open a small factory in Dorset and a flying club in Cyprus. Eventually, he hopes to produce about 1,000 Parajets a year.
"You run through a field and the paraglider wing catches the wind, it fills with air, blows you off the ground, you switch on the motor and off you go, you're flying," he said.
With a Parajet on your back, you can fly up to 2,500 meters (8,000 feet), traveling a distance of 160km (100 miles) at a speed of up to 75kph (46mph).

2010 PARAJET FLYING CAR

Cardoso said learning how to control a Parajet took a few days and he believed it was the easiest way for flying enthusiasts to fulfil their dream.
"Of all the aircraft I've ever seen, it's the easiest one to fly."
The Parajet has flown at an altitude of almost 2,500 meters (8,000 feet), and this summer Cardoso hopes to get to 6,000 meters (20,000 feet).
"It's the ultimate feeling of freedom. It's like riding a three-dimensional motorbike. There's nothing like being up there in the fresh air, unrestricted by roads or the ground. It's a rail-less roller coaster that you're in charge of," Cardoso said.
He is also developing a remote-controlled Parajet, which will allow skydivers to dive out of a para-motor, leave it flying by itself and then remote control it back to the ground. And when that project is finished, Cardoso wants to build flying car.
Rachael Church, managing director of UK-based independent strategic sports consulting and research company Arksports, told CNN she thought the Parajet was a great idea.
"If he put some investment into promoting and marketing the sport then he could sell more, get more people interested and make more money," she said. [Via CNN]

2010 Toyota Auris Full Hybrid Go To Europe

2010 Toyota Auris Hybrid

Japanese manufacturer Toyota has officially confirmed it will begin production of the full-hybrid version of the Auris, scheduled to enter the European market towards the middle of 2010. The hybrid Auris will be built in Burnaston, Derbyshire.
"With today's announcement, Toyota has taken a significant step forward in ensuring that full hybrids become more accessible to a wider range of customers," Tadashi Arashima,Toyota Europe CEO said. "Such efforts are crucial if we are to see more low
-carbon vehicles on European roads."
Although no official technical data has yet been releases, rumors say the new hybrid will rely on a 1.8-liter Atkinson gasoline engine developing 98 bhp connected to an electric unit that also generates 80 bhp.
"We are developing a low-priced hybrid vehicle like Honda's Insight," Akihiko Otsuka, chief engineer of the redesigned, third-generation Toyota Prius, said. in April. "We are going to compete by expanding our hybrid-vehicle lineup to smaller hybrids, in the class of the Vitz and Yaris.

2010 Toyota Auris Hybrid

"The Auris platform was designed so it could also carry a hybrid system," Otsuka said. "By making it flexible, it can accommodate future overseas production and reduce costs."
Toyota will rely heavily on its hybrids in the future, after posting a 26 percent drop in European sales for the first half of month.
"We expect our hybrid mix to strengthen, thanks to a strong order bank for the new generation RX 450h, which was launched in May with best-in-class CO2 of just 148 g/km. This should help to improve sales performance moving into the second half," said Andy Pfeiffenberger, Lexus Europe vice president added.

Ferrari F430 Inden Special Edition

Ferrari F430 Inden Special Edition

The Inden F430 special edition was developed to reach a top speed of over 300 km/h with ease. In the aerodynamic department, the Haiger-based auto tuner mounted a modified front spoiler to properly redirect the flow of air so it can decrease wind resistance and glue the front end of the car to the ground.
The Ferrari F430 has just modified by The German tuner Inden-Design, boosting its looks and performance. While the tuner hasn't revealed the price tag for the Inden-Design F430, the car is more likely aimed at the market niche represented by consumers with an insatiable appetite for spending.
The side-flaps were designed with the same aerodynamic efficiency in mind, not just muscular looks. At the back, the Ferrari received a modified carbon diffuser and a rear valance to increase balance and stability for the pulling rear track.
In the engine department, Inden installed a stainless steel sport exhaust with damper control and Kat replacement tubes, along with new engine electronics and raised the power of the car by 35 hp. The interior of the car features a customizable choice of leather upholstery while the center console is made out of carbon fiber.
Speaking of track, this has been widened both in front and at the back with the help of bigger lightweight wheels. The front wheels were equipped with 8.5x20 rims and 235/30 R 20 ultra-performance tires. The back has been fitted with 12x20 size rims and 325/25 R20 tires. In order to achieve a neutral and focused handling even at high speeds, the tuners from Inden tuned the suspension in order to obtain a reasonable ride stiffness.

GT Concept Citroën Concept Car in London

GT Concept Citroën Concept Car
Traffic in the streets on London came to a stop as the Citroen GT Concept Car rolled through town. The car was designed by Polyphony Digital, a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., for the latest Gran Turismo video game.

The car is the result of a partnership between Citroën and Polyphony Digital Inc. , a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., and designer of the driving simulation game Gran Turismo 5 on Playstation 3, which has already been shipped in more than 50 million units worldwide.
In the game, GTbyCITROËN features an electric drive train powered by a fuel cell with no pollutant emissions.
Kazanori Yamauchi, President of Polyphony Digital Inc and creator of Gran Turismo, said "GTbyCITROËN shows how the worlds of virtual and real-life motoring can join together to create a truly innovative partnership.
"We were delighted that Citroen approached us and gave us the opportunity to combine our creative strengths to build this very special concept car.
"To see the car take shape in game and then for real has been a truly unique experience as our work normally stays in the digital world. I just hope I can get behind the wheel of GTbyCITROËN and drive it on a real race track!"
GTbyCITROËN is geared to the world of motor racing, with its dynamic styling, sculpted lines and sharp graphics. The rear end is oversized, made exaggeratedly long in order to create an effect of retinal persistence.
The idea is to make the concept car even faster visually. The white-to-grey gradation on the body side further underlines this impression of continuous movement.

The design of GTbyCITROËN reflects a quest for optimal aerodynamic design. The show-car is a vehicle of flowing, taut lines, stretched to the extreme. The cleanly drawn sides, ribbed at the top, and the pearlescent shade of the bodywork enhance the vehicle's sleekly muscled looks.
The determined look of the front end is enhanced by wide air intakes and clear-cut horizontal headlamps. The headlamps feature penetrating blue LEDs in order to light the road effectively and keep rivals at a respectful distance! The chrome chevrons on the smooth bonnet express the Marque's identity.
The carbon rearview mirrors on their finely profiled supports appear to be suspended as if to cleave the air, giving an excellent on-road stance.
The large wraparound windscreen flows seamlessly into the roof and on into the rear mobile airfoil with its exaggeratedly long shape. The fast-flowing lines create the impression of a car in perpetual movement. The whole body expresses performance and continuous movement.
GTbyCITROËN also expresses strength and power through generous volumes, (length: 4.960m, 2.080m and height: 1.090m) underlined by strongly marked wheel arches. The diamond-effect 21-inch aluminium wheels enhance the car's sporty personality.

Special emphasis was placed on the aerodynamics and flowing design of GTbyCITROËN, these being key Citroën values.
The objective was to enhance the vehicle's dynamics and to create exceptional driving sensations.
Looking beyond its taut, dynamic lines, this racing car features innovative equipment such as enlarged air intakes at the front, a flat underside, and a mobile spoiler and air diffuser at the rear.
All these features play an active role in reducing lift and - above all - drag, to pin the car to the ground.

The cabin of GTbyCITROËN, designed to seat two adults, expresses the grand touring vision and the racing spirit behind this show-car. The on-board ambience allies premium, extensively worked materials with a more high-tech effect for the driving position.
The layout of the low driving position was dictated by driving pleasure. The aim is for the driver to be able to concentrate on the road, assisted by a head-up display clearly displaying driving information.
The on-board ambience allies rich, premium, extensively worked materials with a more high-tech effect for the driving position, inspired by the world of motorsports.
Looking beyond the spectacular visual effect, the gullwing opening of the two doors gives GTbyCITROËN a level of accessibility rarely seen on this type of vehicle.
The driver and co-driver can therefore slip into their seats and get out on the track as quickly as possible.
The dark interior of this show-car is a surprise, compared with the light bodywork. Upholstered in black leather with subtle touches of rare materials such as copper and steel, the cabin of GTbyCITROËN is distinctly sporty.
Two padded racing seats upholstered in dark leather, each fitted with a four-point harness, enfold the driver and passenger for exceptional driving sensations. Placed low down to highlight the impression of speed, the elegant seats are a perfect fit with the rest of the interior.
The dashboard, with its clean uncluttered design, flows into the receding lines of an imposing copper sculpture. The thrusting modern lines of the sculpture become the central tunnel of the vehicle, illustrating the power of GTbyCITROËN and appearing to catalyse its strength.

The engine of the F 800 R is the parallel twin with 4-valve technology and a capacity of 798 cc, already familiar from the F 800 S.
While the highly distinctive in-line 2-cylinder engine of the previous models was especially impressive due its pulling power, spontaneous response and low level of fuel consumption, the new model now refl ects a further optimisation of engine and throttle response thanks to a new throttle valve kinematic system.
The rated output of the engine is 64 kW/87 bhp at approx. 8,000 rpm and produces a torque of 86 Nm at approx. 6,000 rpm. The mass compensation of the parallel twin is implemented by a system which is still unique in serial production motorcycle construction in which an additional swivel rod compensates the fi rst-order and second-order mass forces, ensuring that the 2-cylinder engine runs with an unusually low level of vibration which is especially pleasant for the rider.
Important contributions to the outstanding dynamics of the new F 800 R are also made by the low dry weight of approx. 182 kg or approx. 204 kg fully fuelled and the chassis with double-sided rear-wheel swing-arm which is especially adapted to the requirements of a sporty naked bike. In accordance with the style and purpose of a sporty naked bike, the new F 800 R also has a secondary drive with O-ring chain.
In line with the demands of a dynamic roadster, the chassis is designed for excellent handling, agility and steering precision, and therefore maximum riding fun on winding country roads, though without compromises in terms of directional stability at high speeds, for example when riding on the motorway.
The streetbike freestyle world champion Christian Pfeiffer provides a foretaste of just how playfully the rider can handle the F 800 R. For over two years now he has ridden a version of the F 800 S exclusively tailored to his needs at international competitions and shows: the similarity of this bike to the current F 800 R is by no means coincidental. In future, the motorcycle acrobat will be able to demonstrate his skills on a machine based on the new F 800 R.
But the new F 800 R boasts more than just sporting talent: in the very best tradition of BMW it also possesses classic virtues such as outstanding seating comfort for rider and pillion passenger as well as an exemplary level of safety. For example, the F 800 R is optionally fitted with an ABS whose newly developed pressure sensor provides an even fi ner regulation of the system and therefore even greater safety . especially in connection with sporty riding.
What is more, the extensive BMW Motorrad accessory program meets all customer demands in terms of individual fittings.
